Change Your Words for Success!

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Words are powerful and they can make the difference between failure and success. Words, just like goals, determine our actions.

When we eliminate negative words and substitute them with positive thoughts and words, then we gain hope and courage. We give ourselves encouragement to move toward the successes we deserve.

Below are words you shouldn’t use and a positive substitute word or phrase for each:Words for success, self improvement, goal setting

Quit ……………..I can do it
Cannot ………..I can
Unable …………I am willing and able
Impossible ….If it’s realistic, it’s possible.
But …………….And (usually works)
If ………………..When
Should ……….Will
Won’t …………Will
Maybe ……….For sure
Someday ……Today
Never …………Now
Try ……………..I’ll do it

For just one week, think before you commit to saying a negative word or statement. When you do this, it will improve your happiness, make you more enthusiastic and move you in the direction of your goals.

Promise Yourself – The Optimist Creed

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Wonderful creed to live by and that is why I am sharing this.

Promise yourself to be strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words but great deeds.

To live in faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you.

Rejuvenate Your Life

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Do you have low days; days where you feel down? It’s fine to have those days once in awhile. Sometimes you just need a day to refresh.

These are the days when you need to be thankful for who you are, reflect on your past achievements and review where you are going. Ponder the successes you are working toward and think about the exhilaration you will feel when you reach those successes.

Take the down day to examine your life, find your soul, meditate, or read. Indulge in something that puts you back on track the next day.

After your day off, begin your next day with your power start and feel the rejuvenation! Rekindle your momentum and take some action steps toward your goals. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Do not quit!

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Lao Tzu

Today I Will Master My Emotions

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

“The Greatest Salesman in the World” by Og Mandino an excellent book and it’s not just for salespeople. The concepts in this book will help you to positively alter your attitudes.

Excerpt:

Weak is he who permits his thoughts to control his actions; strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts. Each day, when I awaken, I will follow this plan of battle before I am captured by the forces of sadness, self-pity and failure –

If I feel depressed I will sing.
If I feel sad I will laugh.
If I feel ill I will double my labor.
If I feel fear I will plunge ahead.
If I feel inferior I will wear new garments.
If I feel uncertain I will raise my voice.
If I feel poverty I will think of wealth to come.
If I feel incompetent I will remember past success.
If I feel insignificant I will remember my goals.
Today I will be master my emotions.

End excerpt.

I highly recommend this book. It is an easy read and well worth your time!

Positively Altering Your Views

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Sometimes it is a challenge to make changes in our life because certain things may seem like a chore to us. Positively altering the way you perceive the changes you are making will produce better results and propel you more quickly toward your goals.

Here are some examples:

I have to manage my time. Change to: I have my priorities straight.
I am dieting to lose weight. Change to: I have changed my relationship with food.
I am working to change my life. Change to: I am transforming my life.
I must always think about self improvement. Change to: I live consciously.

Do an exercise right now.

Write down the changes you are making in your life that you discern to be a chore.

Now, positively modify these transformations.

From today forward, think and talk about these changes with your new and improved declarations!

Example of a Powerful Affirmation

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Affirmations and belief in ourselves creates happiness within. Affirmations should be said with strength and conviction; your affirmations should come from your heart. The true power of affirmations cannot be discounted.

I want to share a post called The Power of Positive Thinking written by Lorelei, a friend of mine who has a wonderful blog for parents. Within the post she shares a You Tube video called Jessica’s Daily Affirmation and you don’t want to miss it. If adults learn by example, this is one example we should learn from.

Morning and Evening Affirmations

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

What starts your day perfectly?  Are you a morning person or a night owl?  Either way, these two affirmations should help you feel better and be more productive.

Say this in the evening:

I am waking up at  __( time ) a.m._  in the morning because I know it creates the time to get the things done that will lead toward the achievement of my goals.  I am so excited about reaching my goal of __( insert goal )___.      I am going to bed at  __( time ) p.m.__  and I will feel great tomorrow because ________  hours is plenty of sleep for me to feel great and to be able to achieve what is truly important to me.

Say this in the morning:

I enjoy waking up each morning at  __( time )a.m.__  because I know it creates the time to get the things done that will lead toward the achievement of my goals.   I had plenty of sleep and I feel great!  I will do the most important step toward reaching my goal of ________________ first, before anything else, because that is what is truly important to me.

Note:  If you wake up 1 hour earlier or go to bed 1 hour later, whichever works best for you, and you devote that 1 hour to your goals, you will gain 7 hours per week which is almost 1 full workday.  Each year you will accumulate approximately 50 extra work days!

How Goals Impact Your Life

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

In our post Plan Your Life, we promised to help you understand how significantly goals can impact your life.  When you set goals and follow the steps to achieve those goals, you will be amazed at the positive outcome it will have on you and your life.

By setting goals in the financial area, you can plan for financial independence so you don’t have to rely on anyone else. You should be able to choose to work; choose to do as you please.

By setting a goal of physical fitness and nutrition, it will enable you to accomplish anything you want. You will be healthy and fit and your mind will be clear, enabling you to reach for and work toward your goals.

By setting a goal of spiritual fulfillment, you will understand who you are and why you are here. You will know your purpose in life and be able to strive for that purpose.

By setting a goal of emotional stability, you can accept personal responsibility for your successes and failures. You will be able to deal with any emotional challenges that cross your path in life and continue to move forward instead of being dragged down.

Your goals will be specific to your life and the direction you want to go. The four examples above show how using just these four areas could impact the decisions you make every day.

The Importance of Goals in Your Life

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

In the last post, we promised to share some reasons why goals are essential.  Understanding the true importance of having clear specific written goals is the beginning of your journey to success.

The key to happiness is having dreams.
A goal is a dream with a deadline.

Goals and why they are vital:

  • You can’t hit a target you can’t see. There is no possible way of you getting what you want in life until you know exactly what you want. With goals you’ll be able to hit the bull’s eye.
  • Goals generate enthusiasm and give you a purpose with direction. With the excitement your goals create, you’ll work toward your objective with unfettered drive and determination.
  • Goals create confidence. They motivate you toward achievement with unshakeable assurance.
  • Goals produce discipline – making you mind yourself. Desire without discipline is disastrous. By just going through the actions you will confuse activity with achievement. Shuffling papers and not getting anything accomplished is just action; Tension relieving, not goal achieving.
  • If you don’t have goals, you are forced to focus on obstacles. Once you set a goal every decision you make all day long will affect that goal achieving or not achieving process. If you know the goal, you can say “Will this get me closer to my goal or farther from it?” It makes every decision process easy. It’s really simple when you have goals; there is no frustration or conflict.
  • You are successful if you have goals. Success is a journey not a destination. You become successful when you start working toward your goals. The definition of success is the continuous journey toward the achievement of predetermined worthwhile goals. Enjoy the journey.
  • Clear specific written goals fire up your reticular activating system (RAS) which a goal seeking region of your brain. RAS is responsible for motivation and achievement. It creates the process of arriving at a goal once the goal has been defined.
  • Your goals are an extension of your values. Goals keep your values in the forefront. Happiness is when you are living consistent with your values. Know what your values are and set goals from them.

What do you want?   You can achieve anything you want in life.

The key to success is making dreams with
a deadline come true.

The Choice Is Yours

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

“Your life is the sum result of all the choices you
make, both consciously and unconsciously. If you can
control the process of choosing, you can take control
of all aspects of your life. You can find the freedom
that comes from being in charge of yourself.”

–  Robert F. Bennett

The Essence of Achieving Goals

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Fundamental to goal setting and achieving is hope, belief, confidence, optimism and a positive attitude.  These affirmative feelings are necessary to reaching your goals.

Conversely, pessimism, sarcasm, negativism, fear, doubt, paranoia and attitudes of condemn, complain, and blame are all counter to what it takes to achieve goals. By allowing these states of being, you empower the force that holds you back.
